I am going back to the drawing board as they say! Starting to do some drawing using various media and various styles as I want to start another degree this year which will involve drawing and painting as well as writing and digital imagery.
The first two sketchbook images deal with the light source and how it affects the depth and shape of the shaded areas and the shadows of the objects.
Then I worked with blocking in basic shapes and shadows using an apple (photo to see the shadows better); a bridge; a seated man; a group of apples. This is a very useful exercise as it isolates so much unnecessary detail and for the beginner helps you to see a composition – even though it does not have much detail.
I used a 0.7 artist pen and a black marking pen. For the chalk drawing I toned the paper with beige pastel and used markers on top with a bit of white chalk.
